How friendly is the Nepali sky ????

A plane carrying tourists to view Mount Everest crashed while attempting to land in Nepal on Sunday, killing all 19 people on board, officials said. The turboprop plane belonging to Buddha Air was carrying 13 foreign tourists, three Nepalese passengers and three crew members when it crashed in Bisankunarayan village, just a few miles (kilometers) south of the capital, Katmandu.18 bodies were pulled out of the plane's wreckage, and that another victim died later after being rushed to a hospital. Among the foreigners who died in the crash, 10 were Indian nationals, two were U.S. citizens and the other was Japanese. It was foggy, and that visibility was very low in the mountainous area.

The Beechcraft 1900D plane - manufactured by Raytheon Aircraft,
now known as Hawker Beechcraft — had taken the passengers to view Mount Everest and other high peaks and was returning to Katmandu. The one- hour "mountain flight" takes tourists over the Everest region, and passengers can view some of the world's highest peaks from the airplane windows.

three major accidents, while 1994, 1996, and 2007 were crash-free. Safety compliance recommendations
and safety related work are not
given due priority by the ministry,

Mar 3, 1955:    A DC-3 belonging to Kalinga Air crashed in Simra, killing
two. This was Nepal's first air crash.

July 12, 1969:    A DC-3 belonging toRoyal Nepal Airlines crashed in Hetauda, killing 35.

July 31, 1992:    A Thai Airways Airbus A310 crashed into Ghyangphedi, killing 113.

Sept 28, 1992:    In Nepal's most-fatal air crash so far, a Pakistan International Airlines Airbus A300 crashed into Bhattedanda in Lalitpur, killing 167 people.

Oct 10, 1999:    An Avro HS-748 belonging to Necon Air crashed in Ramkot near Kathmandu, killing 15.

July 27, 2000:    A Twin-Otter belonging to Royal Nepal Airlines crashed in Dadeldhura, killing 25.

Sept 22, 2002:    A Twin-Otter belonging to Shangrila Air crashed in Kaski, killing 18.

June 21, 2006:    A Yeti Airlines Twin- Otter crashed at Jumla Airport, killing 9.

Mar 3, 2008:    An MI-8 helicopter belonging to UNMIN crashed in Ramechhap, killing 10.

Oct. 8, 2008:    A Twin-Otter belonging to Yeti Airlines crashed in Lukla, killing 18.
